"Jake Houston and The Royal Flush seemed to have been taken from a Friday night inside a 1970s Tennessee roadhouse and deposited 40 years later in Reno. Playing a honky-tonk and original country style, these five guys sounded so authentic and proficient at their chosen style that it was hard to believe that they all appeared to be in their mid-20s rather than battle weary old vets from a deep Southern bygone era. A pedal steel guitar and the singer’s husky gravelly vocals carried the band’s songs of bourbon and hellraisin’ nights"

"Other highlights include the single “Inner States Of Interstates,” a slow building psych-country trip that over the course of five minutes transforms from quiet ruminations on travel into a postmodern Jackson Browne style hit featuring the wonderful pedal-steel playing of Shawn Tamborini."(With Dainesly)

"Formed by Tyler Cravines, drums, and co-lead by Shawn Tamborini, guitar, and Zach Teran, bass, Free Try focuses on group improvisation and spontaneous composition. Well versed in many styles of music, the players’ eclectic and unique voices come together to form a well balanced, unified sound. This band seeks to play, hear, and feel the energy that surrounds us all!"

"The album then expands to slow burner “It’s All Quite Clear,” Shawn Tamborini’s pedal steel ringing with heartbreak before “No Color” tenders a silly play on the lonely life of a dinosaur." (with Dainesly)

"Tamborini’s distorted pedal steel fills any gaps with a shimmery, synth-like veneer."
